IPC Mouldings Welcomes Science Summer School Representatives
INJECTION Moulding specialist, IPC Mouldings has welcomed representatives from the Professor Brian Cox Science Summer School and Mid and East Antrim Borough Council to its facility in Carrickfergus, as the Borough looks to inspire the next generation of local talent and future workforce, whilst raising the importance of STEM/STEAM activities.
During the visit on Friday 12th November, Lord Andrew Mawson, OBE and Richard Mallett, who are the driving force behind the Science Summer School, took a tour of IPC’s facility, met with employees and heard about some of the company’s upcoming projects and innovations.
The Science Summer School is a hugely successful initiative set up in 2012 by Lord Andrew Mawson OBE and renowned Professor Brian Cox CBE. The aim of the initiative is to encourage more young people and students into science and engineer-focussed careers, which aligns with IPC’s dedication to educating Northern Ireland’s future engineers and retaining the knowledge and skills within the province.
Speaking about the visit, Joanne Liddle, Managing Director of IPC Mouldings, said, “We were delighted to welcome Lord Mawson OBE and Richard Mallett, alongside members of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council and the Manufacturing Task Force, to IPC. Having an initiative like the Science Summer School within the Borough offers great opportunity to those young people who are interested in pursuing a STEM related career.
“For many years, IPC has placed a firm focus on developing and nurturing younger talent by offering apprenticeship programmes, as well as school and university placements. Through this exposure to manufacturing in a hands-on environment, we believe that interest and curiosity is piqued, which can result in a future career within the sector. This will futureproof the region’s skills and talent in the years ahead. We look forward to supporting this initiative going forward.”
Graham Whitehurst MBE, Chair of the Manufacturing Task Force, said: “I was delighted to bring our guests to IPC Mouldings. IPC is an excellent example of a local SME that is providing world leading products and services to the aerospace industry. The team at IPC focus on high quality, bespoke products working with global leaders in aerospace. Careers within IPC Mouldings are exactly what the Science Summer School is trying to promote to our young people. Opportunities to work at the leading edge of aerospace technology are a lot closer to home than many of them realise!”
The visit to IPC Mouldings, which is a SC21 Gold accredited company, formed part of a wider visit by Lord Mawson OBE and Richard Mallett, who later attended a business engagement event at The Braid in Ballymena where Professor Brian Cox CBE was guest speaker via video link.
