Sky's the Limit for Local Golfer Tom
Although he’s only just turned twenty years of age, IPC Mouldings has long been a supporter of local Northern Irish young golfer, Tom McKibbin.
Growing up not too far from our manufacturing base in Carrickfergus, County Antrim, and with his mother working as part of our great team at IPC Mouldings, Tom’s achievements within the golfing world have been a regular topic of conversation and celebration amongst us all.
We have also been lucky enough to watch him in action at various golfing events in Ireland and further afield and even been by his side as he’s lifted the occasional award.
Tom began playing golf at the age of just eight years old with a childhood dream to someday follow in the footsteps of his idol, fellow Northern Irish native and golfing superstar, Rory McIlroy.
In 2021, at just eighteen years old, Tom took the brave decision to turn professional after enjoying a phenomenal junior and glittering amateur career. In his first professional year, he gained conditional playing status on the European Challenge Tour where, during 2022 he climbed the rankings to finish in 10th place and thereby obtain one of only twenty DP World Tour Cards.
His DP World Tour season started shortly after (in November) where he got off to a fabulous start, playing his first three events in South Africa and his final event of the year in Mauritius. He successfully made all four cuts, three top 20 finishes and a hole in one!
Tom’s golfing roster is filling up for 2023 but, at Christmas, he made the time to join the team at IPC Mouldings for our Christmas Lunch. The topic of conversation naturally turned to his travels around the world and given our work at IPC Mouldings, the different aircraft seating and interiors he has had the opportunity to experience. Well to be fair, he has always been interested as he wondered what his mother’s workplace made!
So, Tom now knows that we are a world leading supply chain excellence partner in the aerospace sector, that works closely with the global leader in aircraft interiors and supplying parts for aircraft seating. Thus, there is a great synergy to be had, knowing Tom is surrounded by a little bit of home while he traverses the globe!
And from Tom’s childhood dream of someday following in the footsteps of Rory McIlroy, we can safely say that dream has been realised as he takes to golf’s super stage competing against the top golfers in the world with a golfing journey that will take in Kenya, South Africa, the Middle East and America over the next few months.
We are delighted he will enjoy the comfort of travelling in IPC Mouldings’ manufactured products and have that little reminder of home whilst on his own journey.
